Taste Before You Waste is originally an Amsterdam-based initiative that was founded in November 2012, focusing on the prevention of food waste. Their aim is to raise awareness about the enormous amount of good food that is thrown away every day and to inform people about what one can do to prevent this from happening. They try to achieve this through a variety of activities, ranging from food ‘giveaway markets’ and dinners made of ‘rejected food’, to the organization of debates and documentary screenings on the topic. Taste Before You Waste Utrecht is a radical, independent and horizontally organized initiative which aims to raise awareness about the problem of food waste in the production and consumer sphere, and actively work on reducing waste on a local scale. Small shops around Utrecht provide them with fruits and vegetables which haven't been sold, and would otherwise be thrown away. These foods are collected and redistributed to soup kitchens or handed out on the streets.
